With the continuous advancement of the digital economy, whether it is possible to achieve high-quality development of enterprises with the help of digital technology has become an important issue to be explored. Taking A-share listed companies from 2006 to 2021 as the research sample, we empirically examined the impact and mechanism of digital transformation on the high-quality development of enterprises. The results show that digital transformation significantly promotes the high-quality development of enterprises, in which business model innovation plays a mediating role; the heterogeneity analysis shows that the impact of digital transformation on the high-quality development of enterprises is more significant in non-state-owned enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises, and non-high-tech enterprises. Therefore, enterprises should actively carry out digital transformation and promote business model innovation with the help of digital technology, so as to improve total factor productivity and achieve high-quality development of enterprises....
In Puerto Rico, less than 5% of glass waste is recycled annually compared to a US national average of 25%. In regions like Puerto Rico, where government glass recycling programs are absent, glass presents a challenging waste stream to profitably recycle due to high transportation costs and low market prices, with few scalable models identified in the literature. This study emerged from a multi-year shared action learning partnership between Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Puerto Rico Project Center and the Corporación del Proyecto ENLACE, a community development NGO serving the Caño Martín Peña communities in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Based on online research and interviews with 16 key stakeholders, we describe an economically sustainable glass recycling business model designed for the Caño Martín Peña communities that offers broader applicability for similar contexts. The business model achieves three goals: (1) it offers a free and convenient glass-collection service for the Caño Martín Peña communities; (2) it generates local employment opportunities in a low-income region; and (3) it operates in an economically sustainable manner. The viability of the glass-recycling business model is premised on strategic partnerships with government agencies, recycling companies, glass-sand markets, and local businesses....
The article investigates the differentiation of business processes in contemporary organisations based on their dynamics (predictability). It presents and summarises research on the nature of business processes in Industry 4.0/5.0 conducted by researchers from 7 Polish universities. The study combines a systematic literature review based on the SCOPUS database and a survey of 466 respondents with an analysis of 12,573 processes. Filling the cognitive gap in Industry 4.0/5.0 organisations, the study reveals that nearly 60% of all BPs are semi-structured processes. At the same time, it shows a strong relationship between the importance of processes for the organisation and the dynamics of their execution. This finding highlights the importance of adaptability and flexibility in organisational dynamics, reflecting the nuanced nature of most BPs. The article presents original research on a diverse sample of Polish enterprises based on the simplified Business Processes Nature Assessment Framework. The presented research results indicate the need to update the essential elements of the BPM concept, such as BPM Lifecycle, BPM implementation method, or BPM maturity assessment, to consider various assessment criteria and implementation methods depending on the nature of BPs. The study contributes to advancing both theoretical knowledge and practical applications in the field of BPM, providing valuable insights for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers alike....
The hospitality business model has undergone profound changes influenced by successive waves of technological advances and platforms. This paper explores how different waves of technologies and platforms are shaping the evolution of the hospitality business model. Employing a systematic literature review, this research analyzes how platform innovation has driven significant shifts in the industry. The analysis yielded four key findings. Firstly, the incorporation of digital technologies resulted in a radical transformation of conventional business models, prompting substantial alterations in marketing strategies, distribution processes, and consumer behavior patterns. Secondly, the industry has undergone five significant technological revolutions, evolving from steam-powered transportation to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), thereby driving a shift towards innovation-centric business models. Thirdly, the advent of digital platforms, most notably online travel agencies (OTAs), posed a challenge to traditional hospitality models by introducing personalized experiences and disrupting established market norms. While digital platforms offer advantages such as enhanced convenience and customization, they also present challenges, including intensified competition and declining profit margins. Nonetheless, technological advancements such as AI, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) present a potential avenue for redefining value propositions and enhancing customer experiences. Fourth, the future of the hospitality business model is poised for further disruption, influenced by the emergence of new virtual platforms and services. This could potentially result in a reshaping of the industry’s value chain and value proposition....
